Install or replace a faucet in the kitchen

If your kitchen faucet is worn or leaking, or if you just fancy design change, it is very easy to change for yourself that faucet new one.

Close the stopcock

First, cut the water supply by closing the stopcock. Usually located below the water meter.
Then open the taps and wait until water stops flowing.
Before you start loosening the hoses or connectors, it is a good idea to put a cloth under the pipe, because it is likely to fall a little water.
If one or more keys cut passing through the pipes tap, close them before you start working.

Loosen connections

It may be two situations:
1 The two supply lines end with a compression each.
2 Two key step in cutting the pipes under the sink.
In both cases, loosen and remove the connections with an adjustable wrench.

Remove the old faucet

In the faucet base is a tube with an external thread. This element protrudes from the hole in the counter or sink and is fixed below a nut, a washer and a support plate. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut (done this, you can usually remove it by hand). You can then lift the old faucet from the top.

Place the new faucet

The new, like the old, will tap in the base tube with an external thread. Insert tube through the hole in the countertop or sink through the support plate and washer above the tube, place and tighten the nut with the adjustable wrench or pliers to water pumps. Check that the tap is pointing in the right direction. If you have a stainless steel sink or countertop composite, must drill a new hole diameter suitable for a mounting tube top. Use a hole saw type suitable for the material of the sink or countertop.

Water supply hoses

In the faucet base, inside the assembly tube large, two pipes or hoses for the supply of hot and cold water. They are made of a flexible material and having a diameter of 10 mm. It can fold the hand to place them in proper position and, if necessary, cut to length with a pipe cutter.
Connect the hoses to the pipe ends exiting the wall using compression connectors. Hot water is usually left. There is a wide variety of compression connectors for different situations.

flexible hoses

New faucets usually include flexible hoses, but you can also buy separate patch cords in different lengths. The stainless steel braid protects the hose, which is made of synthetic rubber. The ends of the tubes have connecting nuts designed to create a seal. These flexible hoses are offered in different diameters and with different types of connections.

Open the main valve and check for leaks

Once the tap and fixed tight junctions, it is time to open the main valve. Before storing the tools, ensure that there are no leaks.
